US marshals arrest man sought in Youngstown shooting

YOUNGSTOWN — The suspect in a shooting last week that left a man severely wounded was arrested today by U.S. Marshals.

Chauncey Chandler, 33, no address listed, was arrested about 10:15 a.m. on East Philadelphia Avenue.

Chandler is wanted for a shooting just before midnight July 5 that left a man badly wounded at Rush Boulevard and East Boston Avenue. Reports said the man was found lying in the street next to a cell phone and empty shell casings.

The man at first could not speak to investigators because of the severity of his injuries, but he is expected to recover, detectives said earlier this week.

A warrant was issued for Chandler on Tuesday for a charge of felonious assault. He was taken to the police department for questioning and will be booked into the Mahoning County jail.
