The Mahoning Valley Scrappers used a four run third inning to even up their series with the Tri-City ValleyCats.
In that third inning, Alexis Pantoja singled to begin the inning. Gabriel Mejia followed with a double to put runners at second and third. Silento Sayles then laced a two-run double to bring home both runners and give the Scrappers a 2-0 lead.
Later in the inning, Jodd Carter smashed a two run home run, his second of the season, to double the lead to 4-0.
Tri-City would get a run back in the top of the fourth after Stephen Wren started the inning with a walk. Wren advanced to second on a single by Randy Cesar and scored on a fielding error by Jonathan Laureano to cut the Scrapper lead to 4-1.
The ValleyCats would rally in the top of the ninth for the second straight night. After the inning started with two quick outs, Taylor Jones extended the game with a double to center. Jake Rogers, down to his final strike, connected on a two run homer into the Scrappers bullpen in right to bring the ValleyCats within a run. But Brayly Mejia struck out to end the game.
Aaron Civale started and took a no decision for the Scrappers with three innings of work. He allowed four hits and allowed no runs while striking out a batter.
Tanner Tully (2-0) earned the win in three innings of relief. Tully allowed two hits and one unearned run. He walked one and struck out one as well.
Henry Martinez earned the save with two innings out of the bullpen. Martinez allowed two runs, both earned, on three hits. He struck out three before shutting the door.
