Police investigate after shooting at Atkinson Avenue home
YOUNGSTOWN — Police found 22 shell casings of different calibers late Tuesday after several shots were fired at a home in the 1700 block of Atkinson Avenue.
Officers responding to a gunfire call about 11:10 p.m. also found a handgun inside a vehicle in the driveway that had it's windows shot out and several bullet holes in the back of the home.
Reports said police had to force their way inside the home because it was locked and they wanted to check to see if anyone was injured.
No one was inside but officers did find a bowl with marijuana residue and an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle, reports said.
Reports said the homeowner arrived when police were about to leave and she told officers she left to get away from the gunfire.
Reports said she told police she did not know the rifle was there and if she had known she would have used it to shoot back. She told police to take the rifle, reports said.
