Schools CEO attends Youngstown board session

YOUNGSTOWN

Krish Mohip, city schools chief executive officer, is sitting in the chair normally occupied by the superintendent as the first regular school board meeting since he took office.

Interim Superintendent Stephen Stohla is on vacation.

Mohip has distributed to board members and department heads a picture drawn by his son.

The words, written in the scrawl of a 6-year-old boy, reads "help lotz of kids today."

"From now on, when the board votes, it will be a recommendation," said Brenda Kimble, school board president

All final decisions will be made by Mohip.

A suggestion was made by Kimble to reduce from 10 minutes to three minutes the discussion  time limit per board member.

Kimble and board members Michael Murphy, Jerome Williams and Ronald Shadd voted in favor of the time limit change, with members Corrine Sanderson, Jackie Adair and Dario Hunter opposed.

Because a two-thirds majority is required for passage of such a motion, it failed.
