Five large bags of weed found in rental car trunk

YOUNGSTOWN

A man who reports said ran from a traffic stop in June was arrested on drug trafficking charges Monday following a traffic stop on the East Side.

Reports said a car driven by Elijah Alexander, 27, of North Forest Avenue, was stopped about 2:10 p.m. at Lansdowme Boulevard and Dale Avenue for driving too fast and failing to use a turn signal.

As the officer went to question Alexander, several of his family members appeared. Reports said Alexander told the officer he does not have a driver's license.

Alexander was taken into custody for driving with a suspended license and the rental car he was driving was searched before it was towed. In the trunk officers found five large bags of marijuana.

Alexander told police a friend rented the car for him. Police could not get in touch with whoever rented the car, reports said.

Alexander was booked into the Mahoning County jail on charges of trafficking in drugs and driving under suspension. Reports said he ran from a previous traffic stop in June.
