America Makes awards $10M project


YOUNGSTOWN — America Makes, the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute, has awarded the University of Dayton Research Institute a $10-million Directed Project Opportunity.

With $4 million of the project funds going to Youngstown State University i, this is the largest single research award in the university's history.

The project focuses on the maturation of advanced manufacturing for low-cost sustainment. The goal of the project is to enhance and improve U.S. Air Force sustainment operations.

Youngstown State is the co-leader of the technical efforts on the project, which is funded by the Air Force Research Laboratory.

The team, including YSU students, will work with Air Force officials throughout the nation.

"We are trying to help the military fight more effectively, be safer and also grow our economy," said Tim Ryan of Howland, D-13th, at a press conference on YSU's campus today.
