Fracking foe questions columnist’s reasoning
Mr. De Souza, you make me laugh! How absolutely absurd to suggest that a geology professor is the reason employees are laid off at Vallourec Steel.
It obviously has never occurred to you that these laid-off workers are victims of a greedy overreaching industry, which values profits over people. They are unfortunately part of an industry that fell head first into the myth called the “shale gas boom,” which is a “bust.” Everyone is divesting from this risky, unhealthy, unprofitable misadventure except for the likes of you, conjuring up who to disparage next. I wish I had your job.
I did like the quote from Susie Beiersdorfer who reminds us that our own regulatory agencies are not protecting citizens, (for instance, Flint, Mich.’s, poisoned water or ODNR that denied that the North Star injection well was the source of earthquakes).
Why don’t you attend the informative lecture series Dr. Beiersdorfer has offered at YSU for the past three years? You may finally really learn something from experts representing all sides of the shale gas/fossil fuel story.
And, by the way, no one is picking on steel; just use it for something else.

Don’t feed park geese
We were taking advantage of Mill Creek Park on July Fourth, as were many other people. As we drove along Lake Glacier, we saw some woman feeding bread to the geese. After all the controversy about the geese, one would think that people would “get it.” People like her are the problem. It’s nice to be able to walk around the Lily Pond, Lake Newport wetlands area and Lake Glacier without having to dodge goose poop everywhere. But that will not last if stupid people ignore the law and feed the geese. Wake up people! Euthanasia will happen again if you don’t quit feeding the geese.
