Victory Christian Center was the setting of the Aug. 8, 2015, wedding of Helene Gates and Carlos Martinez. The Rev. Mark Cuprik officiated at the 2 p.m. ceremony. The couple were honored at a reception at the Embassy in Boardman.

The couple honeymooned in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, and reside in Poland.

Gary and Donna Gates of Struthers are the parents of the bride, and Samuel Martinez of Lawton, Okla., and Caridad Rodriguez of Fort Worth, Texas, are the parents of the groom.

The bride’s gown was a slip dress accented with an illusion back with crystal buttons. Its capped sleeves were embellished with sequins and lace. She wore a single-tier angle cut veil adorned with Swarovski crystals.

Honor attendants were Bridget Bowes, the bride’s sister, and Erica Kunzer. Bridesmaids were Jenna DiCicco and Sarah Livesay, cousins of the bride; Erika Norris; and Chrissy Bayus. The flower girl was Bailey Logan Bowes, the bride’s niece. The attendants wore black cocktail dresses.

Anthony LaVolpa performed the duties of best man. Groomsmen were Richard Oliver, Bill Bowes, the bride’s brother-in-law; John Hovanic and Pat Simms. The ring bearer was Jaxon Cruz.

Mrs. Martinez graduated cum laude from Youngstown State University with a bachelor’s degree in social work. She works at the Mahoning County Juvenile Court as a program facilitator. She is studying esthetics at Casal Aveda Institute in Austintown and plans to graduate in August.

The groom is a shift manager at Aldi in Boardman.
