Valley police react to Dallas officer shootings

YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown Police Chief Robin Lees said he is “shocked by an unprovoked attack” in Dallas that left five officers dead and six injured.

The shooting occurred Thursday at what Lees called a “peaceful demonstration.”

That snipers would open fire on police officers providing security at the event is particularly troubling, he said.

Youngstown officers are trained on “defensive tactics to defend themselves,” but what to do when snipers are trying to kill them isn’t part of that training, Lees said.
