Robinwood Lane Elementary school celebrated one of their last days on June 3, participating in a fun day filled with different activities.

All of the students participated in fun day and wore different colored shirts to represent what grade they were in. Half of the school comes outside in the morning while the other half stays in the classrooms to watch a movie and eat popcorn. The classes switch in the afternoon so everyone had a chance to play outside and watch a movie.

“I try to think of different events. We have ‘Hungry, Hungry Hippos,’ ‘Ker Plunk,’ an inflatable relay race and kangaroo hops,” said Nicole Haggerty, a teacher at Robinwood and the PTA member who organized fun day.

Haggerty puts the fun days together and has been doing so for seven years. She has certain activities that are put on every year, but she also tries to bring in new ones the students will enjoy.

The dunk tank was a big hit among the students. Fourth-grade students from each class volunteer to go in the dunk tank and have their classmates try to dunk them. Don Robinson, the principal at Robinwood, also sat in the dunk tank and gave the students a chance to dunk him.

Many of the volunteers who help with the fun day events are PTA members and parents of the students. The volunteers are there to help run the different games and watch over the students.

“These kids love the cups that you stack and they love the sidewalk chalk. When you’re looking for a filler that’s always nice,” said Haggerty.

This was the last fun day the fourth-graders will have at Robinwood Lane before they transition to Boardman Center Intermediate School for fifth grade. This group of fourth-graders will be the first group to go to the new intermediate school.
