ODNR issues water contamination advisory for Mosquito Lake beach
CORTLAND
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has issued a water contamination advisory for Mosquito Lake beach.
The warning resulted from samples collected Wednesday showing elevated levels of E. coli bacteria.
The beach will remain open during the advisory, though officials have placed warning signs near the water, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner WFMJ-TV reports. WFMJ reports healthy adults will be allowed to swim during the advisory, though children, the elderly and the those with weakened immune systems will be prohibited from swimming.
ODNR takes samples to monitor the lake once a week during the May through September swimming season. Mosquito Lake was last under contamination advisory during May and June of 2015, according to the ODNR website.
