Wendy’s in Salem, Boardman affected by recent hack

BOARDMAN

Two local Wendy’s restaurants were affected by the recent hack that hit the fast-food franchise.

The Boardman restaurant, 433 Boardman-Poland Road, and the Salem restaurant, 2388 E. State St., both were affected between Jan. 13, 2016, and June 8, 2016.

Wendy’s said hackers were able to steal customers’ credit and debit card information at 1,025 of its U.S. restaurants, far more than it originally thought.

The hamburger chain said Thursday that hackers were able to obtain card numbers, names, expiration dates and codes on the card, beginning in late fall. Some customers’ cards were used to make fraudulent purchases at other stores.

Wendy’s Co. urged customers to check their accounts for any fraudulent purchases.

Customers can see which locations were affected through the Wendy’s website. The company said it is offering free one-year credit monitoring to people who paid with a card at any of those restaurants.

Obama arrives in Poland for summit

WARSAW, Poland

President Barack Obama opened a five-day, two-country mission early today to buck up a beleaguered Europe and brush back an aggressive Moscow.

On what is expected to be his last presidential visit to the continent, Obama is due to attend a summit of NATO allies in Warsaw, before moving on to Seville and Madrid for his first presidential visit to Spain. In both corners of the continent, he’ll be surrounded by leaders still reeling from Britain’s decision to pull out of the European Union and sorting through uncertainty about the future of the decades-old experiment in international cooperation.
