Boardman hosted the annual Boardman Township Community Day on June 4 at the Boardman Township Building and the Boardman Park Stables.

The Boardman Township Board of Trustees worked with Boardman Park to create an event for community members to enjoy and to celebrate their city. Community Day has been offered for more than seven years and businesses from all around Boardman pitch in to provide their services.

Community Day is a free event for community members. Handel’s provided ice cream, Southgate Pizza provided pizza, Hitchcock Woods donated popcorn and Aqua Ohio provided drinks and hot dogs. There was also an inflatable slide and a bouncy house for the children to play in.

“Everything has been donated or through donations from when we seize assests,” said Jason Loree, a township administrator.

Girl Scouts, Boardman Soccer League, the Boardman Lions Club and several other non-profits in Boardman set up tables for the guests to visit and get information from. The sheriffs provided Kids Identi-kits for families who wanted to get one for their child. Boardman High School Key Club members helped served the food and the National Fire and Water Repair representatives grilled all of the hot dogs on his truck.

The Police Department, Fire Department, Boardman Local Schools and other community services brought in vehicles for the families to go and explore the inside. The 4H club of Boardman Park provided wagon rides from the Township Building to the Boardman Park Stables. The Park Stables provided pony rides, a petting zoo, a horse show and more activities.

“It’s one of those days where we celebrate Boardman and we show off what we have here in the community that keeps everybody safe. It’s a fun event for families,” said Loree.
