Cavaliers to acquire Bulls F Dunleavy

CLEVELAND

The Cavaliers will trade for Chicago Bulls small forward Mike Dunleavy, league sources confirmed to cleveland.com.

Chicago is parting ways with Dunleavy to shed cap space to make room for Miami Heat free agent Dwyane Wade, who committed to signing with his hometown team on Wednesday night.

Cleveland will use a portion of the $9.6 million Anderson Varejao trade exception to absorb Dunleavy’s salary, The Vertical reported.

The 14-year veteran has two years remaining on his deal at $4.8 million for next season and $5.2 million for the 2017-18 campaign. However, the final year is a non-guaranteed salary.

Also Wednesday night, free-agent forward Richard Jefferson announced he’s re-signing with the Cavaliers.

Jefferson, 36, made the announcement on his Snapchat account.

Lionel Messi, father, convicted of tax fraud

madrid, spain

Lionel Messi and his father were sentenced to 21 months in prison for tax fraud by a Barcelona-based court on Wednesday, with both sentences likely to be suspended.

The court found the Barcelona star and his father, Jorge Horacio Messi, each guilty of three counts of defrauding tax authorities of 4.1 million euros ($4.6 million).

In Spain, sentences of less than two years for first offences are usually suspended, meaning neither man would go to jail. That decision, however, rests with the court.

The court also fined Messi 2 million euros and his father 1.5 million euros.

Messi’s management company said later on Wednesday that Messi and his father would appeal the sentences.

Bucs’ Kang investigated for sexual assault

CHICAGO

Chicago police say they are investigating an allegation of sexual assault against Pittsburgh Pirates infielder Jung Ho Kang.

In a statement Tuesday, police said a 23-year-old woman reported being assaulted by Kang inside a hotel. Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the Chicago woman met Kang through a dating app. Kang invited the woman to his hotel room on June 17, after the Pirates played the Cubs.

The woman said she blacked out, then drifted in and out of consciousness as he sexually assaulted her. The woman’s name has not been released.

The 29-year-old Kang has not been charged. He pinch-hit in the 9th inning Tuesday night against the St. Louis Cardinals, singling in the Pirates’ 5-2 win.

Pirates President Frank Coonelly said in a statement the team was taking the allegation “extremely seriously” and was cooperating with Major League Baseball. Coonelly declined further comment.
