Mahoning County Grand Jury indicts 21


YOUNGSTOWN — A Mahoning County grand jury Thursday indicted 21 people including Van Sylvester Lightning, 26, East Boston Avenue, on improperly discharging a firearm at on into a habitation with a firearm specification, discharge of a firearm on or near prohibited premises, being a felon in possession of a firearm, improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle and aggravated menacing.

On May 28, reports said police were called to a club in the first block of West Hylda Avenue for a report of a gun in a car that was parked outside. Reports said Lightning was seen getting into the car and when police approached, he ran away with a gun in his hand.

The grand jury also indicted Shun Moreland, aka Sean V. Moreland, aka Shawn V. Moreland, 43, Idora Avenue, on four counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of cocaine with a forefiture specification, illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of cocaine.

On Jan. 13, Police found a loaded .40-caliber handgun was in the freezer and the other three – an M16 assault rifle, a .45-caliber assault rifle and a 9 mm handgun – were found in closets. Also, police said they found a bag of .45-caliber ammunition and two bags of suspected crack cocaine.

The grand jury also indicted Rachel Cassidy, aka Rachel O’Connell, 32, Libberty Road, Hubbard, on aggravated arson.

On May 29, reports say officers investigating suspicious activity at a Motor Inn Drive motel took 32-year-old Rachel L. Cassidy into custody upon discovering Cassidy, of Liberty Avenue, Hubbard, was wanted on a felony-arson charge from Youngstown.
