Man burns fingers

Fire reports said a man pulled a burning sock out of the gas tank of a car Monday and burned his fingers in the process. Firefighters and police were called about 11:05 p.m. to a home in the 2400 block of San Pedro, where reports said the man said he and his girlfriend were inside the home when they saw a glow coming from her car. When they went to investigate, they found a burning sock stuffed in the gas tank. The man grabbed the sock, threw it in the driveway, then extinguished the fire.

4 vacant-house fires

Firefighters responded to four vacant house fires over the weekend.

Two homes on the East Side at 1503 Victor Ave. and 1622 Lansdowne Blvd. were destroyed Monday morning by flames that reports said broke out about 3:10 a.m. and 3:45 a.m., respectively. Damage on Victor Avenue was listed at $3,000 and $2,000 on Lansdowne Boulevard.

About 3 a.m. Monday, firefighters were called to an 87 Saranac Ave. home, where they found a small fire on the front porch and three cans of charcoal fluid. The fire was quickly put out.

About 10:25 p.m. Friday, firefighters were called to a 122 W. Boston Ave. home for a report of people going inside the home lighting a fire. Crews found a small pile of trash in the living room with a can of lighter fluid and quickly put that fire out.

Jack damages car

Reports said someone threw a car jack through the back window of a car Tuesday morning at a 3200 Market St. gas station.

Officers were called about 2:55 a.m. to go to the station and take a report of a car being damaged. They found between 60 to 70 cars at the area around the gas station, and other officers had to be called to clear the area.

Two women told police they were arguing with two other women earlier at a South Avenue club, and they decided to leave. Reports said the victims were pursued by the two women to the gas station, where one of the women threw the jack, which was stuck in the window when police got there.

Arrested after chase

A suspect in a police chase Sunday that started on the North Side and went through Campbell was arraigned Tuesday.

Bond was set at more than $132,000 for Brandon Liggens, 36, of Youngstown, in Campbell Municipal Court on charges of fleeing and eluding, child endangering, tampering with evidence, obstructing official business and felonious assault on a police officer. Later, he was arraigned in Youngstown Municipal Court on a charge of driving under suspension. Bond in that case was set at $3,000.

Reports said Liggens drove away from officers on the North Side, then drove down Wilson Avenue to Campbell before he was rammed by a police cruiser in Youngstown. While in Campbell, reports said he rammed a Youngstown cruiser on McCartney Road.
