Public art project meetings planned
YOUNGSTOWN
Two meetings are planned in connection with the INPLACE project, which will develop and implement a plan to improve the city with a $100,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. INPLACE is being spearheaded by Youngstown State University, which is the recipient of the grant.
A community conversation with urban planning expert Quilian Riano will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the McDonough Museum of Art, 525 Wick Ave. Quilian, who is part of the INPLACE support team, will discuss the role of community stakeholders in such projects. All are welcome to attend the meeting and provide input and learn how to participate in the Youngstown project. Those interested should email info@eagyo.org to reserve a seat.
The kick-off meeting for the INPLACE project will be July 19 at the Youngstown Business Incubator on West Federal Street, downtown.
Fireworks Festival with many activities
NEW CASTLE, PA.
The 25th annual New Castle Fireworks Festival, featuring Arts on the Riverwalk, will be Saturday from 3 to 10 p.m. in the downtown area. The free event includes an artisans market, live entertainment, children’s amusements, arts competitions, interactive activities and a fireworks display.
New features include a zip line on the East Street bridge and a small Makers Fair — a “show-n-tell” of how things are made by do-it-yourselfers and inventors — in Zambelli Park.
There also will be a mobile lab offering hands-on agricultural experiments, 3D printing and vinyl cutting with The Franklin Center, an audio playground from the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh and guest performances by the Carnegie Science Center and visiting artist Gil Teixeria.
Musicians, dancers, vocalists, jugglers and stilt walkers will be performing on and off the stage for tips, and entertainment will fill The Confluence and Two Rivers Artisan Coffee Works from 3 to 9 p.m, as well as at corners along Washington Street.
Free shuttle buses will run from 3:30 to 11:30 p.m. from Union Plaza and the Shenango Giant Eagle.
