Austintown police make weekend drug arrests

AUSTINTOWN

A township man is scheduled to appear in Mahoning County Area Court here today after reportedly getting caught with heroin and cocaine during a traffic stop.

Jawon Williams, 23, of Compass West Drive is charged with two felony counts of drug possession and a misdemeanor count of resisting arrest.

He also was issued traffic citations for driving while under suspension and a marked-lanes violation.

The charges stem from an incident early Monday in which Williams reportedly tried to run from police during a traffic stop on Burkey Road near Collins Avenue.

Police reportedly found substances in his vehicle that were later identified as heroin and cocaine.

Also arrested on drug-related charges over the weekend was David Davis, 38, of Brockway Avenue in Youngstown, who reportedly overdosed on drugs at a Burkey Road address Sunday afternoon.

Township police were called to the scene about 5:30 p.m. Sunday, according to a police report.

They reportedly found Davis unresponsive in a driveway, where someone was performing CPR on him.

After he was revived, police reportedly found a crack pipe, hypodermic needles, burnt spoons with suspected heroin residue on them, and other drug-related items at the scene.

Davis faces misdemeanor charges of possession of drugs, drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia. He also could face a child-endangering charge, according to the report, due to the fact that a 7-year-old child was at the scene at the time of the incident.

He was released on summonses and is scheduled to appear in Mahoning County Area Court here Monday.
