During July, Shepherd of the Valley is conducting its first Stars and Stripes Sock Drive to benefit local veterans, collecting white cotton socks to distribute to veterans in local nursing homes and veterans clinics by the Trumbull County Council of the American Legion.
White cotton men’s and women’s socks can be dropped off at any Shepherd of the Valley community between 8:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily. Drop-off hours for the corporate offices are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Warren Homecoming

On Sept. 23, Kent State University at Trumbull will serve as host for “Rendezvous in the Alley” to kick off the first Warren Homecoming. It will be in David Grohl Alley downtown.
“Good things are happening in Warren, Trumbull County and on our campus,” said Dr. Lance Grahn, dean of the regional campus. “It’s an honor for us to be at the front-end of this inaugural weekend as we welcome our friends, family and former residents.”
Warren Homecoming, which will take place at various locations between Sept. 23 and Sept. 26, is being organized by the Fine Arts Council of Trumbull County. For information, visit the “Warren Homecoming 2016” page on Facebook.
Photo exhibition set
YOUNGSTOWN
Beatitude House, in partnership with the Butler Institute of American Art, will give local photographers a chance to have their photos exhibited Oct. 16 to Nov. 13 beginning at The Butler Trumbull Branch and closing at The Butler Youngstown Branch.
The exhibition will be juried by Dr. Louis Zona, executive director and chief curator, who will select 16 photographs for the exhibition. The pieces will commemorate Beatitude House’s 25th Anniversary.
The exhibit is open to artists within a 50-mile radius of any Beatitude House site. Categories are Professional; Amateur, 18 and older; Amateur, unpaid hobbyists 18 and older, and Youth, 18 or younger enrolled in a local school or university.

Car and Bike Show
WARREN
The third annual Car and Bike Show will be in Packard Park from 2 to 8 p.m. July 23.
It is sponsored by Noels Car Toys on Youngstown Road, which is handling registration for participants and vendors. For information, call 330-307-2356. The event will feature these categories: best sound, best-chromed engine, best overall car, best overall bike, best old school, best foreign, best paint job, best interior and best wheels.
Music will be provided by a disc jockey, and food for purchase will be available.
Fire in Girard
GIRARD
A cause is being sought for a fire at about 3:35 a.m. Monday at a 209 Church Hill Road apartment complex.
A fire department spokesman said the state fire marshal’s office will be investigating.
A damage estimate is not yet available, but the spokesman said the fire did not cause major damage. No injuries were reported.
