Man burns hand saving car from burning sock

YOUNGSTOWN — Fire reports said a man pulled a burning sock Monday out of the gas tank of a car and burned his fingers in the process.

Firefighters and police were called about 11:05 p.m. to a home in the 2400 block of San Pedro, where reports said the man said he and his girlfriend were inside the home and when they saw a glow coming from her car. When they went to investigate, they found a burning sock stuffed in the gas tank.

The man grabbed the sock, threw it in the driveway then extinguished the fire. Reports said the area around the gas tank was charred.

The fire is under investigation, reports said.
