Man beaten in car

YOUNGSTOWN

A 33-year-old man was found beaten about 8:35 p.m. Sunday at the corner of East Dewey and South avenues, police reports said.

The man told police he was in a car with someone he knows when the man began beating him with a large piece of wood. Reports said the victim had a bloody lip and broken nose.

He was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital to be treated for his injuries, reports said.

S. Side drug arrests

YOUNGSTOWN

Police made two drug arrests Friday within a half-hour of each other on the South Side.

Reports said Kari Dotts, 43, address not listed, was charged with possession of drugs after police found 30 pills in her car after she was pulled over about 11:05 p.m. at Rush Boulevard and Gaither Avenue for running a stop sign.

At 11:25 p.m., reports said, Bernard Moore, 49, whose address also was not listed, was pulled over at Hillman Avenue near West Chalmers Avenue for an improper turn and police found loose crack cocaine on his passenger seat. He was charged with possession of crack cocaine.

Both are in the Mahoning County jail awaiting their arraignments today in municipal court.

Sharon checkpoint

SHARON, Pa.

A DUI checkpoint on the Shenango Valley Freeway at Walnut Street from 10 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday by Pennsylvania State Police at Mercer resulted in nine arrests for DUI.

A news release also said five people were arrested on misdemeanor or drug paraphernalia charges, 18 others were issued traffic citations, one person was cited for speeding, another for driving under suspension and 54 were issued written warnings. One person also was arrested on a bench warrant.
