Slovenefest set at SNPJ center

SNPJ, Pa.

Next weekend, July 8-10, the Slovene National Benefit Society (SNPJ) will host the 35th annual Slovenefest at the SNPJ Recreation Center, 270 Martin Road, Enon Valley, on Pa. Route 108, one mile east of the state line.

Slovenefest features more than 20 polka bands and button-box accordion clubs at five indoor and outdoor venues. The nonstop entertainment starts at noon each day.

Admission is $10 on Friday and July 10, and $15 on Saturday (three-day pass is $30). Children 16 and under are admitted free. Parking and shuttle service are free.

The event offers the food and beverages of Slovenia, including sausage, and barbecued lamb and pork, and cultural displays. Families can use the pool, fish in the lake, play miniature golf, ride the trackless train, and enjoy the other facilities. A fireworks display will be Saturday night.

It’ll be New Orleans at Nelson Ledges

Nelson Ledges Quarry Park will present the Midwest Mardi Gras July 22-24, a musical celebration of New Orleans culture featuring Dumpstaphunk, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, the Wild Magnolias, the Mardi Gras Indians, plus more acts to be announced.
