Bombing in Baghdad kills at least 23

BAGHDAD

Bombs went off early today in two crowded commercial areas in Baghdad, killing at least 23 people and wounding 61, according to hospital and police officials.

In the first attack, a car bomb exploded in the Karada district in central Baghdad, killing 18 people and wounding 45.

Shortly afterward, an improvised explosive device went off in eastern Baghdad, killing 5 people and wounding 16.

The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attack in a communique distributed on Telegram and Twitter, according to the SITE Intelligence Group that monitors jihadi online activity.
