Warrant issued in beating of man on South Side

YOUNGSTOWN

A judge issued a felonious-assault warrant Friday for a suspect in the severe beating of a man who was found lying on a South Side sidewalk Thursday morning.

Police are looking for Marcus Gutierrez, 37, who is wanted for the beating of 54-year-old John Tatar. Court records do not show an address for Guiterrez.

Tatar was found about 10:35 a.m. Thursday in the 1300 block of Market Street after police were called on a report of a man lying in the roadway.

Reports said Tatar could not speak when police found him, and he had blood all over his head and face.

Officers ran a records check on him before he was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital and found out he had missed a court appearance earlier Thursday on a charge of criminal trespass.

Tatar was cited about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday after he was caught sleeping in a 38 W. Evergreen Ave. home that reports said was in such bad shape officers would not enter to see if anyone else was inside.

A woman who was present when police found Tatar told officers her nephew, Gutierrez, had beaten Tatar about 7 a.m. while they were at her South Side home on West Warren Avenue, reports said. Reports said police went to the home and found blood there.

City Prosecutor Dana Lantz said Friday that Tatar was beaten severely and is in bad shape.
