Demolition delayed

MEMPHIS, Tenn.

A judge has postponed an order to demolish the dilapidated home where singer Aretha Franklin was born in Memphis. Shelby County Environmental Court Judge Larry Potter told the person who’s responsible for the house to submit on Aug. 11 a proposal to save the home. Potter cited the city’s satisfaction that the property had been repaired, its importance in “the history of R&B in this city and country,” and his own love for Franklin’s music.
