Fourth of July events around the valley

All events are on the holiday on Monday unless otherwise noted.

MAHONING COUNTY

Austintown: The Austintown Historical Society will have its 40th annual ecumenical service at 8:30 a.m. at Austin Log Cabin, 3797 S. Raccoon Road. The public is invited. Fitch Color Guard will present the colors, and a Fitch trumpet player will play “To the Colors.” The Rev. John Keehner of St. Christine Church is the speaker and a continental breakfast will follow.

Austintown: A parade will begin at 2 p.m. at Raccoon Road and Kirk Road, heading north to Falcon Drive.

Austintown: An Austintown Fireworks Celebration will take place at 10 p.m. Sunday at Austintown Plaza, 6000 Mahoning Ave.

Boardman: Boardman Park, 375 Boardman-Poland Road, will host an Independence Day celebration at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Take lawn chairs and blankets for a performance of patriotic music by the U.S. Army Field Band with fireworks to follow. Concessions available. In the event of rain, the performance will move to the Boardman Performing Arts Center.

Campbell: The city will have a holiday parade today. Parade will line up at City Hall at 10 a.m. and proceed to the bandstand at Roosevelt Park, where there will be a short ceremony and later picnic-style refreshments.

Canfield: Holiday events will include a kids race around the Green that begins at 8:15 a.m. A Firecracker 4-Mile Run will follow at 8:30 a.m., and a parade begins at 10 a.m. with kids’ games after.

Canfield: Canfield Rotary Fireworks Festival will take place at the Canfield Fairgrounds from 6 to 11 p.m. today. $10 per car parking. Entertainment includes music, food vendors, face painting, bounce-a-rounds, pony rides, super heroes, train rides and a plane fly-over.

Struthers: A parade begins at noon at the Struthers Fifth Street Plaza and continue through the city. A 5K race will be offered from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Youngstown: Fourth of July fireworks will be offered Monday at dusk at the Covelli Centre, 229 E. Front St.

TRUMBULL COUNTY

Cortland: A Stomping with the Settlers Bluegrass Festival will be offered at Greene Eagle Winery, 2576 Davis Peck Road, from noon to 10 p.m. today, and will include 10 bluegrass bands on two stages, artisans and memorabilia vendors, food available for purchase and an evening fireworks show. Howland: Howland will host a variety of activities on the holiday. A Stars and Stripes 5K Run and Walk sponsored by Trumbull Family Fitness will begin at 8 a.m. A township parade will begin at 10, and travel a 1.5 mile route along East Market Street to Howland High School. A costume pet show will be at 1 p.m., and prizes will be awarded for best costume, longest tongue, biggest and smallest pet, most unique pet and best talented pet. A burrito-eating contest sponsored by Hot Head Burritos for anyone 16 and older will also be offered; call 330-565-2438 to participate.

McDonald: The last day of the McDonald Fireman’s Festival will include activities from 6 to 11 p.m. today with rides, games and entertainment. Fireworks will be held at approximately 11:15 p.m. today.

Newton Falls: Newton Falls Fourth of July committee will host events throughout the week, as well as the holiday. Music will be offered nightly in the township community center, including 7-11 p.m. Sunday, Blue Collar Band, and Monday, 4-7, Jay Byrd Blues Band and 7-10, The Nasty Habits Band. Fireworks will follow. A parade will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday.

Niles: Harry Stevens Hot Dog Day will be offered in downtown Niles from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday. Celebrate inventor, businessman and Niles native Harry Stevens, who is credited for inventing the hot dog, the baseball scorecard and the drinking straw. Events include Fourth of July Parade; hot dog-eating contest; cornhole tournament; wiener dog race; Miss Niles competition; musical entertainment.

Niles: Fireworks will be offered in downtown Niles at 10 p.m. Monday. The fireworks are set off from behind the fire station on Niles-Cortland Road.

Niles:: Fireworks will follow the 7:05 p.m. Monday Mahoning Valley Scrappers game against the Vermont Lake Monsters at Eastwood Field, 111 Eastwood Mall Blvd.

Warren: A Packard Legacy Weekend will take place at National Packard Museum and Packard Park, 1899 Mahoning Ave. NW from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Sunday. The event celebrating the design and engineering of the Packard Automobile offers how-to demonstrations, lectures, exhibits, music and food. All-makes car show is Sunday and W.D. Packard Band Concert is 8 p.m. Monday, followed by fireworks. Admission for the museum is $8 for adults, $5 for seniors (65+) and children 7-12.

COLUMBIANA COUNTY

East Palestine: Activities for the holiday will be offered at East Palestine City Park on Park Drive. They include 8 to 10:30 a.m., alumni breakfast at Community Center; 8 a.m., 5K Freedom Run at Masonic Temple; 10 a.m. pet parade and 12:30 p.m. bike parade, sponsored by EP park board; 1-10 p.m., live music; 2, games for kids at shelters 23, 24; 3, cornhole tournament; 4, volleyball tournament, duck derby and donkey drop bingo immediately following; 6, dodgeball tournament, 8, skydive by Tim Weigle; and 10, fireworks sponsored by Fireman’s Association.

Columbiana: Firestone Park, 38 E. Park Ave., will be the site for all-day events celebrating the holiday from 8:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Rain date July 9. Family games, fishing tournament, canoe race, ice cream eating contest, watermelon eating contest, music, Fireworks display at 11 p.m.

Salem: A fireworks display will take place at 10 p.m. Sunday at Waterworth Memorial Park, 866 Sunset Blvd. There will be a Quaker City Band concert before the fireworks at 6 p.m. at the Orashan Bandshell.

MERCER COUNTY

Greenville, Pa.: Greenville Heritage Days will be offered downtown from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. today and 1 to 10 p.m. Sunday. Kids events, music, craft and food vendors, family zone, scavenger hunt, games, duck derby, corn hole tournament, car show, G-Mazing Race. Fireworks at 10 p.m. Sunday.

Hermitage, Pa.: Light Up the Sky at Buhl Park will begin at 6 p.m. Sunday at Buhl Farm Park, 715 Hazen Road. Face painting will be offered by artist Laura Stuart and balloon art by Dragonfly Balloons. Concessions available. Fireworks will be set off at dusk over the Kite Field hill.

Jamestown, Pa.: Fireworks will begin at dusk today at Pymatuning State Park from the ballfield area.

LAWRENCE COUNTY

Ellwood City, Pa.: The Ellwood City Festival will be at Ewing Park, 330 Sims St., through Sunday. Daily highlights include the Ellwood City Ledger 10k race today and Zambelli Fireworks display to close event Sunday.
