v Mesopotamia Ox Roast, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.: The fun starts at 10 a.m. with the Chardon Polka Band and goes all day at this annual festival featuring roast-beef sandwiches and an antiques and flea market. It’s at the intersection of state Routes 534 and 87; mespofire.com.

v Wright Brass, 6:30 p.m.: This ensemble, part of the U.S. Air Force Band of Flight, will give a free concert at Buhl Park, 715 Hazen Road, Hermitage, Pa.

v “Politics, Love or Hate,” 6 p.m.: Most of the Mahoning Valley’s top artists are showing works in this new exhibition at Soap Gallery, 117 S. Champion St., Youngstown. The free opening-night reception will include a mini street fair, with live music.

v Trumbull Art Gallery Summerfest, 11:30 a.m.: A parade will launch this day for kids on Courthouse Square in Warren, followed by a concert by Top Notes at noon and Chalk on the Walk at 12:30 p.m. It’s the final day of Summerfest, a two-week series of art workshops for children.

v Old Skool, 8 p.m.: If you’re headed to Hollywood Gaming casino in Austintown, check out this ’80s and ’90s cover band (free admission). The casino is on state Route 46, just south of the Interstate 80 interchange.

“Killjoys” (9 p.m., Syfy): Dutch (Hannah John-Kamen) and her gang of space bounty hunters are back for more adventures in Season 2 of “Killjoys.” Now they’re off to Eulogy, an outlaw-only barter town where they hope to steal a high-tech shield.

Hands-On History at Tyler center

YOUNGSTOWN

Hands-On History open houses will be Wednesday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St., downtown.

Each week will feature a different local history theme, ranging in topic from food and movies to early settlers and the Civil War, with immersive programs, arts and crafts, games, activities, toys and artifacts.

The program runs every week through Aug. 10. There is no cost to participate in the activities; museum tours will be offered at half-price admission.

Auditions are set for new play festival

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Playhouse, off Glenwood Avenue, will have auditions on Tuesday and Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. for its fifth annual Voices of the Valley New One-Act Play Festival.

This year’s original selection is “Remains,” written by local playwright Richard William Machuga. “Remains” is a “deadly funny” comedy that takes the planning of funeral arrangements as its premise.

The play calls for two male actors, preferably ages 35 to 45. Both roles are open. Auditionees will be asked to read from the script.

Rehearsals will begin immediately after auditions.

“Remains” will be performed in the Moyer Room Aug. 5 and 6.
