Motorcycle crash
BOARDMAN
A motorcyclist fleeing police crashed into a car on U.S. Route 224 near Tiffany Square at about 10:20 p.m. Friday. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said there were injuries as a result of the crash. How many were injured and how seriously was not immediately known. The pursuit began in Lawrence County, Pa., went through Poland Township, then came into Boardman where the collision occurred, said the OSHP, which was still on the scene of the crash at 11:30 p.m.
Girard cruiser tips
GIRARD
An overnight police car accident is under investigation by Girard Police Department.
Sgt. John Freeman is said to be doing fine and suffered no injuries from the accident, according to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.
His cruiser flipped over near the area of South State Street and Morris Avenue just before 1 a.m. Thursday.
Girard police Chief Jeffrey Palmer said Freeman was responding to assist another officer when he hit a guide wire and couldn’t maintain control. His vehicle had undergone maintenance, and there is also a possibility the brakes may have failed.
Chalk on Walk today

The Fine Arts Council of Trumbull County’s Chalk on the Walk event and Summerfest Children’s Art Parade and music by the “Top Notes” will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. today during Noon in the Park on Courthouse Square, downtown.
The Summerfest Parade, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., takes place at the conclusion of Trumbull Art Guild’s two-week Summerfest Celebration consisting of two weeks of art classes for children and young adults.
After the parade, children and adults can pick up free chalk from the FACT table, choose a sidewalk square and create works of art; and the “Top Notes” will perform big-band music.
Nomination advances
WASHINGTON
Ohio’s U.S. Sens. Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman announced the nomination of Carole Rendon to serve as the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio has advanced out of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Now, Senate leadership must bring her nomination to the floor for a vote in the full Senate. Rendon, the former first assistant U.S. attorney, has been acting U.S. attorney for the Cleveland-based Northern District of Ohio, which includes Youngstown, since February. The U.S. attorney is the federal prosecutor.
Talmer aids Beatitude

As part of Talmer Bank and Trust’s pledge to give back to the communities it serves, it recently made a $10,000 donation to Beatitude House. The funds will be used for renovations and upgrades to the transitional housing sites, House of Blessing Youngstown and House of Blessing Warren, and for financial literacy programming at the sites.
“We know that nonprofit organizations, like Beatitude House, are some of the silent heroes in our communities,” said Mark Wenick, executive managing director and region president for the Mahoning Valley.
“Support like this not only touches the vulnerable population we serve but the community as a whole,” said Sister Janet Gardner, Beatitude House executive director.
Antenna payment

Mahoning County commissioners on Thursday approved a one-time payment of $27,500 and a $12,000-a-year, 10-year lease for a sheriff’s department radio antenna to be placed on the WNEO-TV tower in Goshen Township.
