Homeless man cited

Homeless man cited

YOUNGSTOWN

Police Wednesday cited a man for sleeping in a vacant South Side home that was in such bad shape the officers would not enter. Police were called about 7:30 p.m. to a vacant 38 W. Evergreen Ave. house for a report of a man who was inside. When they arrived, they knocked on the door and a homeless man, John Tatar, 54, answered.

Reports said Tatar told police he was sleeping in an upstairs room. He was given a citation for criminal trespassing and released with a court date.

The house was so unsound that reports said officers did not go inside to look for anyone else because it was deemed unsafe.

Police found 237 painkillers on one man and more than $200 cash on another while conducting a drug sweep Wednesday in the 2600 block of Tyrell Avenue.

Reports said two men, DesDamon Lake, 20, of Oakwood Avenue, and Jaraylen Calhoun, 23, of North Maryland Avenue, ran into a West Side apartment when they spotted police. Reports said when officers searched Calhoun, he had the money and Lake had the pills.

Assault at bus station

YOUNGSTOWN

Police said a Campbell man Wednesday punched a police officer at the Western Reserve Transit Authority bus station at 340 W. Federal St. and then lost his colostomy bag as officers struggled to take him into custody.

Reports said officers were first called about 2 p.m. to a 116 W. Federal St. store where employees said Aaron Jones, 22, was there even though he had a criminal trespass warning to stay away from the store.

When Jones saw the officers, he ran to the bus station, reports said; then when the officers caught up with him, he punched one of them in the face before being tackled and handcuffed.

Jones is in Mahoning County jail on a charge of assault on a police officer and criminal trespass.
