Phantoms fall in OT against RoughRiders

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA

The Youngstown Phantoms rallied to force overtime against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, but a crucial lapse of discipline led to a 3-2 overtime loss.

Phantoms forward Kevin Conley tied up the game at 2 late in the third period, but he took a slashing penalty at the end of regulation. The penalty kill held out before the Phantoms gave up the game-winning goal to Cedar Rapids’ Jacob Hayhurst. That goal came with just seven seconds left on Conley’s penalty.

Matt Miller notched the first goal of the game in the second period, but the RoughRiders responded in the third with a goal each from Justin Cole and Callahan Burke, respectively. The two goals came within a minute of each other.

The Phantoms will return for a two-game home stand against the Tri-CIty Storm on Friday and Saturday.
