State grant will spur Healthy Communities
WARREN
The Trumbull County Combined Health District has received $115,529 for the second year of the five-year Creating Healthy Communities grant.
The grant comes from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention through the Ohio Department of Health.
The award will be used to promote healthful eating, active living and tobacco-free environments. Work will be prioritized in neighborhoods such as the city of Warren and Bolindale area of Howland Township because of their higher rates of chronic disease and conditions.
Examples of strategies that will be used include repairing a park, improving bicycle infrastructure, safe routes to school, increasing access to farmers markets and food pantries, and training school food-service staff in smarter lunchroom practices.
