Lent, a season of spiritual renewal, begins Ash Wednesday, which is Feb. 10. Forty days is a traditional number of discipline, devotion and preparation in the Bible. Lent also lasts for 40 days, excluding Sundays.

A listing of Ash Wednesday services and other Lenten programs will be published next Saturday. Deadline to submit information is 5 p.m. Wednesday. White Mass set

YOUNGSTOWN

Bishop George V. Murry will be the main celebrant and homilist for the 20th annual White Mass at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at St. Columba Cathedral, 154 W. Wood St.

The White Mass is for all health professionals, including mental-health workers, to recognize and celebrate the ministry of all those in the healing professions.

A reception will follow in St. Columba Hall.

The annual White Mass is sponsored by the Lourdes Guild, an association of Catholic physicians and dentists of the Diocese of Youngstown, in cooperation with Youngstown Council of Catholic Nurses and the diocesan Office of Pro-Life, Marriage and Family Life.

LIBERTY

The Rev. Gregory Long of the Eastern Orthodox tradition will speak on “The Mystical Experience” when Jewish/Christian Studies/North meets Wednesday at Temple El-Emeth, 3970 Logan Way. The group gathers at 12:30 p.m. with the program at 1 p.m.

Easter program

“He Did It All for Me” is the title of an Easter production set by Elim Christian Center, 3218 Ridge Road SW. It will be staged at 6 p.m. March 25 and 26. People are needed to fill various roles and backstage crew positions. A meeting is set for 6 p.m. Thursday at the center. For information, call 330-373-6955.

Unity service

SHARON, PA.

Christian Associates of the Shenango Valley will present a unity service at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, 600 E. State St., with the Rev. Ralph Hawkins, executive director of Shenango Presbytery.

Spirituality Day
