Pavlik hearing set for Feb. 16

Former boxing champ Kelly Pavlik will have a preliminary hearing at 4 p.m. Feb. 16 on an assault charge.

Pavlik, 33, of Sugarbush Drive, did not show up for a hearing Friday, but entered a written not-guilty plea through his lawyer in Mahoning County Area Court.

Authorities allege Pavlik shot the victim with a pellet gun at Pavlik’s home Aug. 9. The victim came forward to report the incident in mid-October. Canfield officers then charged Pavlik with felonious assault.

The former middleweight boxing champ retired in 2013.

Water distribution

SEBRING

The village announced its days and times for bottled-water distribution at the Sebring Community Center, 305 W. Texas Ave.

The center will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday. The center is closed Sunday. Further distribution hours for next week will be determined.

To date, the village has distributed 147 pallets of water or approximately 300,000 bottles. An additional 38 pallets arrived Friday, and the village anticipates an additional 20 pallets by Monday.

All Sebring water customers are eligible to receive free bottled water, unless their residence or business has been tested as OK.

Each qualifying person in the household will receive the equivalent of 1 gallon, per person, per day. No consumer will receive a supply exceeding six days per distribution. All residents and businesses receiving bottled water must have their residence or businesses tested, or shall be disqualified from receiving free water.

Clerk assaulted

Reports said a clerk at an East Side store Thursday was knocked down by a shoplifter and had her face stomped.

Police were called to Dollar General, 2896 McCartney Road, just after 1 p.m., where an employee said she confronted a woman who was trying to take items out of the store and told her to drop them.

The woman then knocked the employee down, stomped her face and ran to a waiting car, reports said.

Reports said one side of the victim’s face was swollen, and she had lumps on her forehead and the back of her head. The victim sought medical treatment, reports said.

There, they can download the federal postcard application, register to vote and request an absentee ballot, read through frequently asked questions, track the status of their mailed ballot and sign up for election reminders.
