New Bethel Baptist Church sets annual dinner

YOUNGSTOWN

The New Bethel Baptist Church, 1507 Hillman St., will host the Rev. Lonnie K. A. Simon Annual Dinner at 3 p.m. Feb. 14 at Mahoning Country Club, 710 E. Liberty St., Girard.

Dinner reservations are $15 and can be made by calling the church office at 330-747-2125. Reservation deadline is Feb. 8.

The program will pay tribute to the former pastor of New Bethel and focus on the accomplishments he made during the Civil Rights Movement.

Legacy awards will be presented to one adult and one youth member of the church, who have demonstrated community involvement and outreach efforts.

The Rev. Bruce McLaurin of Cleveland will be guest speaker.

New Bethel adopted its 2016 budget in the amount of $587,096.

Elected as 2016 church officers are Michael Lyons, deacon board chairman; Ike Henry, general treasurer; Julius Livas, trustee board chairman; Reuben Gordon Sr., benevolent treasurer; Juanita Davis, church clerk; Jeanette Miller, deaconess board chairwoman; Lois York, church school superintendent; Michael Lyons, Christian education director; and Tazwell Franklin, financial secretary. Newly elected deaconesses are Shelia Livas and Dorothy Turner. The public is invited to attend.
