Youngstown Playhouse adds programming in Moyer Room

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Playhouse is adding programming to its Moyer Room.

Pat Foltz, a director at the Youngstown Playhouse and an instructor at Youngstown State University, is organizing “More in the Moyer Room,” a series of theatrical events and theater education programming.

The Moyer Room is used as an intimate theater for the Griffith-Adler drama series, which specializes in non-mainstream fare. The series will continue.

The new programming in the room will include staged readings of full-length plays by local authors, a senior reader’s theater group, cabaret and karaoke events and poetry slams.

There also will be classes and workshops with area instructors and performers that will cover subjects such as auditioning for musical theater productions, acting on film and how to prepare a theatrical resume and head shot.

The first session of workshops, titled “Performance Now,” with area performer and choreographer Joshua Green, will run Saturdays from Feb. 13 to March 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Attendance is open to performers high-school age and older.

Proceeds from the new Moyer Room programs will be used for the continuing remodeling of the theater, as well as community support and private sponsorship.
