Walkers and runners sought for February event

Meridian HealthCare will sponsor Winter Sprinter, a 4-mile run and 2-mile walk slated for the Mill Creek MetroParks Canfield Bike Trail on Feb. 20. Proceeds from the event will benefit prevention and recovery programs in the Mahoning Valley.

The 4-mile run, which will be professionally chip-timed, begins at 9 a.m., while the 2-mile walk gets underway at 9:45 a.m. The course begins and ends at the McMahon Hall parking area at the MetroParks Farm, located at 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Road in Canfield.

There is a fee for registration.

Participants can learn more about Winter Sprinter and can register online by visiting www.MeridianHealthCare.net. Registration is also available by mail and starting at 8 a.m. the day of the event.

Awards to be given for the 4-mile run include male and female overall, 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60 and up.

The top three places in each age group will receive awards in McMahon Hall after the race, where participants and spectators can enjoy hot chocolate and pancakes. The cost of the food for runners and walkers is included in the registration fee and there will be a minimal cost at the door for non-participants.
