A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships in Mahoning County, and Girard, Liberty and Hubbard in Trumbull County:

POLAND

Jan. 20

Animal complaint: Police responded to a dog barking excessively at a home in the 2100 block of Manor Avenue.

Jan. 21

Theft: A Parkway Drive man reported 50 DVDs valued at $500 stolen.

Jan. 25

Theft: An Austintown woman discovered $100 and other items missing from her vehicle while at a Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road business.

BOARDMAN

Jan. 20

Identity theft: An elderly Glenwood Avenue woman discovered $1,743 worth of fraudulent charges had been made to her checking account.

Theft: A man reportedly stole six bags of rock salt and four other items from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Burglary: To an apartment in the 100 block of Carter Circle through a rear door, possibly with a duplicate key. A portion of drywall in the garage was damaged, as was a water tank.

Burglary: Someone cut a wire that operates a garage-door sensor and entered a residence in the 4800 block of Oak Knoll Drive. A yard sign was missing.

Theft: A worker for a Southern Boulevard construction company noticed a 9 mm pistol was missing.

Theft: A Hubbard woman reported her cellphone and $5 stolen while at Southern Park Mall.

Theft: Shana M. Starks of East Auburndale Avenue, Youngstown, was charged after police alleged the 31-year-old Starks had stolen $131 worth of items, including deodorant, from Dollar General, 5953 South Ave.

Domestic violence: Authorities arrested 34-year-old Wayne L. Martin of Tod Lane, Youngstown, after having pulled him over on Southern Boulevard in Youngstown. Martin was charged with the crime after a woman alleged he had entered her Euclid Boulevard residence and, during an argument, pushed her to the ground, struck the accuser with a towel bar and slammed her head three times into the floor.

Jan. 21

Arrest: A vehicle check in the 40 block of Boardman-Poland Road resulted in the arrest of 29-year-old Sara R. Johnson of state Route 88, Bristolville. She was wanted on a warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Theft: Wanda M. Duck, 47, of East Delason Avenue, Youngstown, was charged in the theft of $264 worth of merchandise, including DVDs, from Walmart.

Drugs: During a traffic stop on South Avenue, authorities charged 23-year-old Stephanie L. Dudley of Greenville, Pa., with drug abuse and 33-year-old Ryan M. Gavala of Christy Road, Hermitage, Pa., with possession of drug-abuse instruments and obstructing official business when, they alleged, over-the-counter pills with no prescription and a suspected marijuana stem were found. Gavala, who also was wanted on a probation-violation charge, refused several times to provide his identification, a report showed.

Citation: Police received information about a possibly erratic driver on Glenwood Avenue before citing 52-year-old Darlene A. Childs, who listed Boardman addresses on Amherst Avenue and Beechwood Drive. She was charged with operating a vehicle impaired and having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

Jan. 22

Arrest: A traffic stop in the 8000 block of Southern Boulevard resulted in the arrest of Tony R. Sciarra, 28, of Wedgewood Drive, Youngstown, who was wanted on an Austintown bench warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Harassment: Lowellville police handed to township authorities 37-year-old Tricia A. Conti of Medford Avenue, Youngstown, who was wanted on a telephone-harassment charge. A Forest Park Drive man alleged last month that Conti had made a series of such calls to him, including threats to kill the accuser.

Theft: Roy D. Schimpf, 34, of Rhoda Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with stealing four pairs of undergarments and a T-shirt from Walmart.

Threats: Willie B. Richardson, 30, of Alburn Drive, Boardman, was picked up on a warrant charging him with making domestic-violence threats after a woman alleged that during an argument related to car keys, Richardson had threatened to kill her and her baby.

Burglary: Occurred at a residence in the 1100 block of Boardman-Canfield Road through the front door, perhaps with a duplicate key. Two safety-deposit-box keys were missing.

Theft: A Melrose Avenue woman reported her purse stolen from her car.

Criminal damaging: A vehicle in the 7300 block of Sierra Madre Trail was found with a broken driver’s-side mirror. Damage came to $300.

Criminal damaging: A Gardenwood Drive man told police someone had spray-painted his car in his driveway.

Theft: A man in his 50s reportedly stole three bottles of body wash and a tube of toothpaste from Dollar General, 4996 Market St.

Domestic violence: Benjamin Wienand, 36, of Woodrow Avenue, Boardman, was charged with the crime after his wife alleged Wienand had twice head-butted her during an argument related to their daughter.

Jan. 23

Burglary: Took place in the 800 block of Cedar Way via a rear window. A 47-inch flat-screen TV, an Xbox game system and five Xbox games were removed, for a $1,448 loss.

Forgery: A Youngstown man at a Boardman-Canfield Road business discovered someone had forged his signature on and cashed a check for $172.

Theft: A woman reportedly stole $43 worth of makeup from the J.C. Penney store in Southern Park Mall.

Citation: Officers near Meadow Lane pulled over and issued a minor-misdemeanor citation to 22-year-old Tricia L. Willis of Freeman Road, Lisbon, after alleging they found two suspected marijuana cigarettes.

Theft: Police took custody of 35-year-old Eric E. Montgomery, who was wanted on a theft charge. Montgomery, of Erie Street, Youngstown, was accused of having stolen $85 worth of merchandise Jan. 17 from Walmart.

Theft: Denise M. Belanger, 43, and Thomas W. Hulings, 47, both of Hofmeister Road, Petersburg, were charged with taking $81 worth of property, including three Sony PlayStation 4 games, from Walmart.

Unauthorized use of a vehicle: A worker for a Boardman-Poland Road restaurant said that a man took her 2006 Chevrolet Impala without permission.

Aggravated menacing: An employee with a Boardman-Poland Road store reported a man whom she had dated threatened to return to kill her. He also made hand gestures to simulate having a gun, a report said.

Theft: A man and a woman reportedly took two hooded sweatshirts from Victoria’s Secret Pink in Southern Park Mall.

Jan. 24

Theft: A Struthers woman noticed $250 missing from her purse while at a Doral Drive big-box store.

Theft: A man reported a set of keys missing from his locker at a U.S. Route 224 fitness center.

Auto theft: A Memphis, Tenn., man reported his 2014 Chevrolet Malibu stolen while at a Market Street motel.

Arrest: Officers responded to a report that a car had struck an apartment complex in the 5000 block of Glenwood Avenue, then charged 33-year-old Joseph R. Soltesiz III of Wildwood Drive, Boardman, with operating a vehicle impaired and leaving the scene of an accident.

Theft: Walter S. Reynolds, 62, of West Delason Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with returning three high-definition TV wall mounts to Kmart, 1209 Boardman-Poland Road, that he never bought.

Theft: Two men reportedly stole a 50-inch high-definition TV valued at $598 from Walmart.

Counterfeit: A fake $50 bill was passed at Family Dollar, 4030 Market St.

Theft: A Green Bay Drive woman alleged a family member had sold the accuser’s $950 iPhone without authorization.

Vandalism: A man told police that while driving on Interstate 680 near U.S. Route 224, a woman in another car tailgated him and tossed a 20-ounce soda bottle, striking his vehicle’s quarter panel.

Jan. 25

Theft: A man discovered about $3,700 worth of jewelry had been removed from his Glenwood Avenue home.

Theft: A resident at a South Avenue long-term care facility noticed $130 missing from his room.

Theft: A woman left Kohl’s, 383 Boardman-Poland Road, in an Oldsmobile Alero after reportedly having stolen a handbag, five pairs of jeans and another item.

Theft: A worker for a Market Street business reported a $600 iPhone stolen.

Theft: A man in the 6100 block of Market Street discovered a small safe containing two documents was missing from his apartment.

Aggravated menacing/criminal damaging: While responding to a possible burglary in the 6900 block of Tippecanoe Road, police talked to a man who said his vehicle’s hood and window had been smashed and that someone threatened to harm him.

Theft: A man reportedly took one pair each of work boots and tennis shoes from Shoe Carnival, 550 Boardman-Poland Road.

GIRARD

Jan. 22

Domestic violence: Van D. Darling Jr., of East Main Street, Girard, was charged with the crime after a family member alleged Darling had struck him with a broomstick during an argument. Darling also was wanted on a warrant.

LIBERTY

Jan. 21

Identity fraud: An East Liberty Street man reported getting a letter from the Social Security Administration thanking him for using services he told police he had never used.

Jan. 22

Identity fraud: A Tibbetts-Wick Road woman found out someone without permission had used her husband’s personal information to apply online for a credit card.

Menacing: A Fifth Avenue woman reported a classmate had threatened her 13-year-old son on a school bus while returning from a basketball game.

Drugs/weapon: A traffic stop on Holly Drive led to the arrest of 23-year-old Timmogene Howell of Bonnie Brae Avenue, Youngstown, on one felony count each of being a convicted felon with a firearm and heroin possession when, authorities alleged, a bag of suspected heroin and a loaded .357 Magnum revolver were found in a nearby residence. Also taken into custody was Nelfonda D. Lynch, 23, of Holly Drive, Girard, on a Trumbull County 911 center warrant.

Identity fraud: A Townsend Avenue woman told officers she received an email claiming she owes on a loan for which she had never applied.

Jan. 23

Arrests: Police on Belmont Avenue pulled over and charged 18-year-old Christina A. Kimma of Yorktown Lane, Youngstown, and 20-year-old Shawna M. Satterlee of New Road, Austintown, with offenses related to underage persons. Satterlee also faced a charge of obstructing official business when, police said, she refused several times to provide her identification.

Jan. 26

Theft: A manager with a Logan Way gas station alleged an employee was seen on surveillance video stealing money while conducting a nightly count.

Citation: Authorities received a 911 call regarding a possible attempted stabbing before citing 20-year-old Tiffany L. Pounds of Craig Drive, Girard, on a charge of obstructing official business. Upon their arrival, Pounds denied several times calling 911 to allege her boyfriend had tried to stab her and her infant, a report showed.

HUBBARD

Jan. 20

Menacing: An official with Hubbard Middle School, 250 Hall Ave., told police a student had threatened to kill another student. Both sets of parents were notified, a police report stated.

Jan. 21

Assault/aggravated menacing: Officers responded to an altercation in the Hubbard High School parking lot, 350 Hall Ave., where a 17-year-old student alleged another student had threatened to shoot him. The 17-year-old admitted having pushed the other person, a report showed.

Forgery: An Elizabeth Street man learned that someone had forged his name on a vehicle title.

Theft: A Youngstown man, 28, reportedly stole $45 worth of gasoline from a Speedway station, 806 W. Liberty St.

Jan. 22

Harassment: A Thornton Road man said an acquaintance made and sent him threatening calls and text messages. In addition, the acquaintance made unwanted visits to the accuser’s girlfriend at her place of employment, he also told police.

Jan. 24

Assault: A Mock Street man alleged his girlfriend had kicked him in the groin area during an argument.

Jan. 26

Misuse of a credit card: A Westview Avenue woman reported having found on her credit-card statement a $13.34 unauthorized purchase that originated at Southern Park Mall in Boardman.

Harassment: An employee with a North Main Street barber shop told police he’s received about 15 calls in a one-week period claiming he had won money and should claim it.
