Kelly Pavlik enters not-guilty plea to assault charge

CANFIELD — Former boxing champ Kelly Pavlik will have a preliminary hearing at 4 p.m. Feb. 16 on an assault charge.

Pavlik, 33, of Sugarbush Drive, did not show up for a hearing today, but he entered a written not-guilty plea through his lawyer in Mahoning County Area Court here.

Authorities allege Pavlik shot the victim with a pellet gun at Pavlik’s home in Aug. 9. The victim came forward to report the incident in mid-October. Canfield officers then charged Pavlik with felonious assault.

The former middleweight boxing champ retired in 2013.
