Poland Dobbins Elementary School students celebrated their Polar Express day on Dec. 22 with cookies, hot chocolate and a reading of “The Polar Express.”
The fourth-graders headed to the cafeteria in their pajamas to start decorating their cookies in honor of Polar Express day. Plain sugar cookies were provided for the students to decorate with frosting, springs, marshmallows, chocolate chips and many more treats. There was also hot chocolate for the students to drink while working on their cookies.
“They will be decorating cookies and then I’ll do a reading of the “Polar Express” over in the corner,” said Principal Michael Daley.
The students were able to sit with their friends and classmates while taking a break from their regular class schedule. Christmas music was playing in the background for the children to listen to as they were decorating cookies.
After the students finished their cookies and hot chocolate, they gathered around Daley to listen to him read “The Polar Express.” Daley explained the meaning behind the book before beginning the reading. He said that the word “believe” is a big part of the story and that the students shouldn’t wish they were older because when you get older, you wish you were younger.
All of the grades had their own time to celebrate their Polar Express day with their classmates. The students enjoyed being able to wear their pajamas to school and decorate cookies with a several different toppings to eat.
The PTO helped put everything together for the Polar Express day. They play a big part in the events that take place at the school and are greatly appreciated for all of the time and effort they put into each event.
