CANFIELD

Canfield High School, 100 Cardinal Drive, will host a dinner tasting and show Saturday evening open to and put on by members of the community.

For the show, at 7:30 p.m., students are performing various Disney songs from new Disney productions such as “Frozen,” to older ones such as “Song of the South.”

“It’s a really broad spectrum of the Disney classics,” said John Scurich, 16, a sophomore.

Kelly Scurich, high-school choir director and John’s mother, said she had been wanting to do a Disney theme for a long time. The spring choir and band trip to Disney World in Orlando, Fla., gave her the opportunity.

“The Disney theme has been very popular among the high school students. They have been excited to learn new and older music,” she said. “Some of the music they have never heard of. The parents and grandparents will recognize it, though.”

John said he was excited to perform because music is in his blood.

“Singing and music has been with me since I was little. Both of my parents were choir teachers,” John said.

He will be singing “Love is an Open Door” from the movie “Frozen” and has the duty of playing the piano.

Kelly Scurich said she enjoys watching the students enjoy themselves when they perform.

“It’s a great way to feature a large number of our talented students,” she said.

Before the music portion, a dinner at 6 p.m., which is sold out, features a “Taste of Canfield,” a sampling session from local restaurants.

Businesses will be serving small, appetizer-size dishes including mini sandwiches, hot chips, pizza squares and more.

John said the tasting is great for the businesses and an important collaboration of the community and the school.

“It’s such an interesting idea,” John said. “Nowhere around here does something like this.”

Concert tickets – $10 for adults and $5 for students – can be purchased at the high school.
