Two area nursing homes could potentially be affected by Chapter 11 bankruptcy filed by their parent company, New Beginnings.

Headquartered in Tennessee, New Beginnings operates nursing homes in several states, including Cedarcreek Health Care Center, 4121 Tod Ave. N.W., Warren; and Campus Health Care Center, 196 Colonial Drive, Liberty, said Beverly Laubert, Ohio Department of Aging long-term care ombudsman.

Laubert said New Beginnings filed Friday for Chapter 11 protection in Eastern District Bankruptcy Court in Tennessee.

Chapter 11 bankruptcy is intended primarily for the reorganization of businesses with heavy debt burdens, most often associated with corporations.

Laubert said some residents have moved from Campus, lowering the census from 44 to 40; others have expressed concern, and some staff members have talked about leaving.

She said the state is paying close attention to the Campus facility because it is on the Federal Focused Facility List created by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid.

They have assured inspectors that they have adequate staffing, but a Dec. 30, 2015, inspection revealed some deficiencies.

“We have our eyes on this place. If residents want to leave, we will help them find another place for them,” Laubert said.

“We don’t have quality concerns at this time at Cedarcreek. We will check on it, but they are not a focus facility.
