US Marshals suspect expected in court Friday

YOUNGSTOWN — The man U.S. Marshals were looking for this week when they discovered evidence of a suspected cockfighting ring at his home is in the Mahoning County jail.

Juan Tufino, 25, surrendered at the Mahoning County jail late Wednesday afternoon on a warrant for charges of escape, a second-degree felony, and misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and domestic violence.

Tufino has been wanted since he escaped from police Saturday while his hands were cuffed behind his back on Rosewood Lane on the East Side.

Marshals looking for him Tuesday at a Myron Street discovered several chickens, some alive and some dead, and authorities said the birds were being used in a cockfighting ring.

Tufino faces no charges as of now for the birds found in his home. He is expected to be arraigned in municipal court Friday.
