SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR The Humane Society of Columbiana County and the Hanover Township and Winona volunteer fire departments have teamed to host the second annual Plunge for Rescue event at 2 p.m. Saturday at the East Lake Road boat ramp at Guilford Lake in Lisbon. Doug Brannon of Team Salem VFW, above, is shown braving the frigid waters of the lake during the 2015 plunge. This year’s event will include training exercises and rescue demonstrations by the fire departments at 10 a.m., plunge registration at noon and Sparky the Fire Dog’s arrival at 1 p.m. Plunge entrants must make a minimum $25 donation to participate; those who donate $100 or more will receive official gear. Team activity is encouraged, and prizes will be awarded for biggest team jump, as well as most outrageous costume, biggest fundraiser and most creative plunge style. Preferred seating to watch the plunge at the Guilford Lake Grille will be $10. Registration and donation forms are available at the HSCC shelter, 1825 S. Lincoln Ave., Salem, or on the HSCC Facebook event page. All proceeds will benefit the pets in the care of the shelter. For information call Jill Halligan at 330-592-4623 or the shelter at 330-332-2600.
