Jazz man Mulidore to return

Staff report

AKRON

Las Vegas jazz great – and Youngstown native – Jimmy Mulidore will return to Northeast Ohio for two shows Feb. 19 and 20 at Blu Jazz in Akron.

Mulidore, equally acclaimed for his saxophone and flute playing, was the music director at the Flamingo and Hilton hotels in Sin City for 18 years. He worked with everyone from Frank Sinatra to Barbra Streisand in that city’s glory years.

Mulidore will bring the swagger of the famed Vegas Strip to Akron for his Feb. 19 performance with the Dave Banks Big Jazz Band. He will return the next night with his Jimmy Mulidore Quartet.

Tickets are $18 for Feb. 19 and $15 for Feb. 20, and are available at blujazzakron.com. Both shows start at 8 p.m.

Banks, a trumpeter and band leader, also was a Las Vegas musician, who worked with Mulidore there. He returned to Northeast Ohio after 20 years in Nevada, where he performed more than 4,000 shows in the casino town.
