INSECTS IN WINTER

When: Sunday, 2 to 3:30 p.m.

What: Winter is a time when pesky summer insects are gone. But where do they go? Learn the winter survival tactics used by many insects from our area. A portion of the program will take place outdoors.

Ice & Fire – Hike!

When: Sunday, 1 to 3 p.m.

What: Join us for a frosty winter walk, then warm up by the fire and enjoy hot chocolate and marshmallows.

Details: Moderate, 1.5 miles. Register at Ford Nature Center, Mill Creek MetroParks, 840 Old Furnace Road, Youngstown, 330-740-7107.

Orchid Walk-Up Clinic

When: Tuesday, 6 to 8 p.m.

What: Have an expert look at your plant and help you repot it, if necessary. Pots and orchid bark mix available to buy at gift shop during regular business hours, or bring your own bark mix and clean pots.

Where: Fellows Riverside Gardens, McKinley Avenue, Youngstown.

Cost: Free.

Jewels of Winter Orchid Exhibit

When: Tuesdays through Sundays until March 13, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

What: Let these jewels of the plant world dazzle you. During the heart of winter, find the spirit of the tropics at the Davis Center as you observe these exotic beauties on display. Bring your camera to capture plenty of amazing blooms.

When: Feb. 7, 2 to 4 p.m.

What: Join us at the Nature Center for a music jam.

When: Feb. 11, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

What: Let Friends Specialty at the Garden Cafe connect you to the local food movement. Have a glass of wine and sample appetizers. Enjoy an exquisite winter repast prepared by Mitch Lynch and his staff, highlighting seasonal produce and local farms.

Cost: $30 plus cash bar.

11th Annual Winter Seminar

What: Men’s Garden Club of Youngstown will help you make your garden appealing, alluring, fascinating.
