Candidate Cook will appear on ballot

WARREN

David Cook of Warren will appear on the March 15 ballot in the Democratic primary for Trumbull County commissioner.

Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted, a Republican, notified the county elections board this week that he broke a board tie vote by siding with Cook.

The elections board split 2-2 at a Jan. 11 appeal hearing on whether to allow Cook to appear on the ballot. The two Democrat members voted to remove Cook, while the Republicans voted to allow him on.

The board voted 3-1 Dec. 28 to remove Cook from the ballot because he had written a number on his petitions that was unclear. It was supposed to be a 21 to indicate the number of signatures on the page. But several board members said it might be a 20.

At an appeal hearing Jan. 11, Cook told the board he has carpal tunnel syndrome in his writing hand and arthritis in that wrist. “I think I just got in a hurry that day and my hand shook,” he said.
