Pavlik charged

Pavlik charged

CANFIELD

Former boxing champ Kelly Pavlik is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday on an assault charge in connection with purportedly shooting a man with a pellet gun last August. The charge, a first-degree misdemeanor, was filed Tuesday in Mahoning County Court in Canfield.

The charge stems from an Aug. 9 incident in which Pavlik is accused of firing a pellet gun at Brian Bailing while the men were at Pavlik’s Canfield home, according to 21-WFMJ TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.

Last April, Weathersfield police charged Pavlik with assault and disorderly conduct for an incident outside the Foo Fighters performance at a record store. The assault charge was dismissed, but Pavlik was convicted of disorderly conduct.

The previous year, Pavlik was convicted of OVI and disorderly conduct in separate cases. He was ordered to pay fines in both instances.

Firefighters hired

BOARDMAN

The township board of trustees voted to hire four entry-level firefighters at a meeting this week.

One replaces someone who retired; two replace recent resignations; and one fills a position that’s been vacant for several years, Fire Chief Mark Pitzer said. The new hires are Tyler Simpkins, Steven Stilson, Jonathan Park and Cory Hinderliter.

The board also approved the hire of someone to work in the fire department’s fire-prevention bureau.

Under the contract between the firefighters union and the township, entry-level firefighters make $26,500 per year. Effective March 1, firefighters get an annual salary increase of $1,250.
