Youngstown police arrest woman accused with hitting a man with her car last week

YOUNGSTOWN — An Austintown woman wanted for running down a man in a car and breaking his leg last week was arrested Monday evening on a felonious-assault warrant.

Reports said officer Jeshaila Dunkle spotted a car driven by Regina Jones, 41, that matched the description of the car used to strike the man on Oak Hill Avenue on Jan. 20, about 8:30 p.m. on South Avenue.

Reports said Dunkle followed the car to a home on Emery Avenue while awaiting backup. A few minutes after the car pulled into the home’s drive, it drove away. Dunkle and officer Michael Burnich stopped the car but the driver was not Jones, reports said.

Reports said the woman driving the car took them back to her house where Jones was but Jones would not come out. Officers had to go inside and they found her hiding in the basement, reports said. She was taken to the Mahoning County jail and is expected to be arraigned Wednesday.
