Pa. Turnpike's westbound lanes between Breezewood and New Stanton closed Wednesday

HARRISBURG — The Pa. Turnpike Commission advises motorists that an 86-mile stretch of the turnpike will be closed westbound for approximately three hours starting at 9 a.m. Wednesday between the Breezewood (Exit #161) and New Stanton (Exit #75) interchanges.

The closure is necessary to recover a tractor-trailer that is over an embankment near milepost 156 in Bedford County. Traffic will be detoured off at Breezewood Interchange to re-enter the turnpike at New Stanton Interchange.

The more than 100-mile detour is needed because shorter alternate routes cannot safely accommodate the diverted traffic volumes, turnpike officials said in a news release.

The accident happened over the weekend and crews are now able to safely retrieve the tractor-trailer from over the embankment.
