US stocks slide as energy prices tumble; Twitter falls
NEW YORK (AP) — Another drop in energy prices is dragging down oil and gas companies in midday trading, leading the overall market lower.
Chevron and Exxon Mobil each fell 1 percent.
The price of U.S. oil fell 5 percent to $30 a barrel in New York.
Twitter dropped 4 percent after several top executives departed.
The Dow Jones industrial average declined 65 points, or 0.4 percent, to 16,022 as of 11:45 a.m. Eastern time.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 10 points, or 0.5 percent, to 1,896. The Nasdaq composite gave up 17 points, or 0.4 percent, to 4,574.
Bond prices rose. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note fell to 2.02 percent.
